Last June 9 and 10, 2014, the Our Mother of Perpetual Help Parish hosted for the first time the gathering of clergy and religious of the Diocese of Surigao. Priests' Assembly is an every other month gathering of clergy, religious and invited lay that are serving in the church under the diocese. One of its aims is to give updates of each parish according to their respective programs and projects. One highlight of this month's assembly is the discussion of legal matters with the help and recommendation of the invited legal council. Another aim of the gathering is to promote camaraderie and friendship among the diocesan and religious clergy together with some religious sisters. The faithfuls of the parish are honored and blessed to host the gathering despite being classified as a class c parish in the diocese.
There were two venues for the Priests' Assembly, the town of Socorro and the Hidden Island Resort. With more than 60 delegates coming from the mainland Surigao, Siargao island and Dinagat island, they all met together at the Parish of Our Mother of Perpetual Help for the opening mass at 1:00 Pm. Immediately after the mass, they all proceeded to the the official venue in Hidden Island Resort, which is a 40-minute travel by boat.
It was on the following day, June 10, 2014, that the assembly was formally started. In one of the presentations of the commission, a donation project was re-launched for the entire diocese to adopt. "Piso para sa Misa" was introduced for the hosting of the 51st International Eucharistic Congress of the country in Cebu. The proceeds of the project goes to this international congress that will be held in 2016. Other commissions like Worship, Youth and Vocation also presented their respective reports.
The assembly finished smoothly with an applause and thanksgiving from the delegates. The success of the Priests' Assembly was made possible because of the full support of the parishioners of the Our Mother of Perpetual Help Parish. Especial thanks also to the volunteers who served the participants since the preparation until the last day.
