According to the recounts of some residents of this barangay, there were nine families, who together navigated the island seeking for greener pastures. They were headed by two persons, Aryong Rosillo and Antonio Cambaya. These two were very religious and dedicated to Sr. San Isidro Labrador. The saint was their inspiration in striving to find a place to settle in the island of Bucas Grande.
The families finally settled at the center of Bucas Grande Island. They named the place Bangkal for it was surrounded by many Bangkal trees, years passed, Bangkal was officialy named to LAPAZ in honor of the Virgen dela Paz.
In the 1930s, the island was under the political jurisdiction of municipality of Dapa. For this reason, there were instances wherein there was no available priest to say mass during feastdays. Disappointed, the founders decided to transfer to the Philippine Independent Churchand renamed La Paz to Nueva Estrella, which means bag-ong bituon.
in the 1950s, the Christian leaders Antonio Cambaya and the family of Aryong Rosillo decided to return to the Roman Catholic Church and made a makeshift Kapilyafor their families and relatives with Sr. San Isidro Labrador as the patron saint.
Since then, the religious group grew simultaneously with the succession of leaders and presidents. At present, the chapel has four BECs with an average of six family members.
