WORDS OF GRATITUDE: We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude for all those who in one way or another have supported much our parish initiated projects like perimeter fencing, landscaping, gutter repair, bell fry & grotto construction, sound system installation and the establishment of our own parish cemetery with a name: SAINT AUGUSTINE'S ROMAN CATHOLIC CEMETERY- a modern day graveyard in Bucas Grande Island, Socorro, Surigao del Norte. Right now, we have already started with phase 1: Perimeter fencing. Thank you to all our sponsors and benefactors here and abroad, our parishioners, all BEC members in the respective chapels; Poblacion, Pamosaingan, Nueva Estrella, Dona Helene, Sta. Cruz, Sto. OMPH Parish had more than a hundred delegates during the 75th jubilee anniversary of the Diocese of Surigao in Surigao City. In the parade, Socorro parishioners lead in front the delegation of the entire Vicariate of Mt. Carmel from the Siargao Islands together with the parishioners of Dapa, General Luna, San Benito, Pilar, Burgos, San Isidro, and Del Carmen and followed by other vicariates that of St. Augustine, Sts. Peter and Paul, San Nicholas and Immaculate Conception. The big day of the celebration started with a parade that kicked off at the St. Paul University - Surigao (Extension Campus) and ended at the Surigao Grandstand. The gym was full packed with the presence of Catholic faithfuls of Surigao, who came to the city to witness the celebration. The support of the different heads of ecclesiastical jurisdictions in the country was also overwhelming especially with the presence of the Cardinal of Cotabato, His eminence Orlando Cardinal Quevedo and other bishops. With an estimate of more than 30 bishops and more than 100 priests from different parts of the country joined and the celebration. His Eminence Orlando Cardinal Quevedo presided over the solemn eucharistic celebration that began around 5:30 PM. Prior to the mass, messages of different political leaders of the Provinces of Surigao del Norte and Dinagat Islands were delivered in front of a thousand audiences expressing their felicitations for the 75th anniversary of the Diocese of Surigao.
